A Brief Professional History
Like Most VAs, Cheryl started her career in the "real world". After graduating from Boston University’s College of Communication with a BS in mass communications and public relations, she worked for a Boston advertising agency as an administrative assistant and print production coordinator. She then spent the next 10 years in the Marketing Department of a large laboratory supplies and equipment distributor in a variety of marketing, managerial, and communications positions. During this time she worked on budget development and management, newsletters, advertising, collateral material, catalog and direct mail campaigns, national sales meeting organization, development of sales training programs, product line management, and early website development. In addition, during this time she earned the designation of "Certified Business Communicator" (CBC) through the Business Marketing Association (BMA) of Philadelphia. After Cheryl left the corporate world to spend more time at home with her family, she continued working to develop her business skills. First, she owned a small antique business selling goods through a local antique shop and online through eBay. Cheryl then provided volunteer public relations services for two local schools and a church, and sat on the volunteer board of trustees of an emerging charter school. Additionally, she continued her personal and professional growth through training programs in such areas as freelance magazine writing, and most recently, Virtual Assistance training through Assist University and Author's Assistant training though AuthorSmart.com.
The plan to open a Virtual Assistance company started with Cheryl's desire to be a business owner, but maintain the flexibility she required to also be responsive to the needs of her family. She wanted to be able to draw on her 10+ years of administrative and marketing experience, while developing her abilities in using the latest technology. The practice is a reflection of Cheryl, therefore, the most unique features of Equalibrium are her own abilities and work style. Cheryl is a very independent, proactive worker, with a get-it-done attitude. Her insatiable curiosity and her love of learning new things, make Cheryl well suited to be a Virtual Assistant.
